Key Deliverables of Subject Position’s Group:
-
The Diatomite Thermal Recovery
(DTR) team is charged with evaluating and proving up Aera’s
largest organic growth opportunity, which targets increased
recovery from the South Belridge Diatomite reservoir via a light
oil steam drive and a heavy oil cyclic steaming opportunity in
the adjacent South Belridge Diatomite East Flank. Four large
field demonstration projects are currently operating; and
execution of the Module-1 light oil Steam Drive Project was
initiated during the 1st quarter 2008. Additionally, the first
phase of the East Flank Heavy Oil Cyclic Project is currently
underway with drilling planned to begin 2008.
Roles and
Responsibilities:
The Facilities Engineer will report to the Manager of Technology –
Diatomite Thermal Recovery. Specific roles and responsibilities are
described below:

Provide facilities surveillance
engineering for surface equipment and systems operating in the
DTR demonstration projects. Work with the DiClam-DSD Operations
team to identify and implement process/equipment improvements
that increase demonstration project reliability, efficiency, and
safety.

Provide engineering analysis that
supports the continued development of a mechanical integrity
program, standard operating procedures, and preventative
maintenance practices.

Provide technical support as DiClam-DSD
and DTR personnel strive to mitigate EHS risks associated with
Diatomite thermal recovery processes. Participate and utilize
Process Safety Information, Process Hazards Analyses,
Pres-Startup Safety Reviews, and Safe Work Processes.

Lead root-cause failure analyses
with the objectives to improve system reliability and leverage
operating experience to full-scale development design.

Monitor and improve process metrics
that are used to surveil DTR operations to enable accomplishing
the objectives described above.

Collaborate with the DTR
Engineering team to identify, evaluate, and define full-scale
Diatomite thermal recovery development strategies and plans.
Experience/Business Accomplishments Required:
This position requires:
-
The successful candidate is a
degreed engineer with demonstrated understanding of fundamental
engineering concepts applicable to oil field operations. Ability
to develop fit-for-purpose solutions for facilities challenges
associated with high pressure steam and high temperature sour
service multi-phase production.

Initiative and desire to learn are
required to resolve challenging technical and operational
issues. Willingness to take advantage of available mentoring
within the DTR Operations DTR Engineering teams.

Awareness of how operating
practices and equipment design can influence EHS risk exposure;
a desire to mitigate EHS risks.

Able to prioritize and provide
tangible recommendations to Aera and contract personnel.

Good verbal and written
communication skills. Able to interact with a high performing
multi-disciplinary engineering/operations team. Able to prepare
effective specifications and plans.

Familiarity with and/or interest in
continuous improvement, business process improvement, and lean
concepts.
