Our compensation and benefits

Because we want to hire the best, our competitive salaries and generous benefit plans are complemented by an annual bonus program. Plus, from the day you start you'll have four weeks of paid vacation each year, 10 paid holidays each year and a 9/80 work schedule that provides every other Friday off. Field professionals have varying work schedules and receive at least three weeks of paid vacation annually.

Experience you'll gain

Our internships are designed to give you hands-on work experience. Internships are developed around a project that is related to your degree and career interests as well as our business needs. You will lead the project with the expectation to complete it within the 10 to 12 week internship. You'll be supported by a mentor and other experienced team members for those times you need guidance. At the end of the internship, you'll give a final presentation about your project results and recommended actions. Make the most of the opportunity!

How much & where

We know that gaining experience is invaluable; however, it won't pay the bills. You will earn competitive pay based on your field of study and year in school. Additionally, we will reimburse you for costs associated with relocating to California as well as a monthly stipend to help defray living costs.

Our internship program runs between May and September for up to 12 weeks, depending on your class schedule. Most interns work at our company headquarters in Bakersfield, Calif. or one of our production units about an hour from Bakersfield. You may also have the opportunity to work at our units in Ventura or San Ardo.


To be an Aera intern, you must have finished at least your first year of college/university and have an overall grade point average of at least 2.8 in your degree program. You must be authorized to work in the United States.

We consider students pursuing the following degrees:

Accounting, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Geological Engineering, Geology, Industrial Engineering, Management, Management Information Systems (MIS), Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Petroleum Engineering, Supply Chain Management.
