The Ventura County oil and gas operations of Aera cover approximately 4,300 acres located largely in an unincorporated area of the county just to the northwest of the city of Ventura. Production averages 14,000 barrels per day of crude oil and 7.7 mmcf per day of natural gas. Oil is transported to refineries in the Los Angeles basin. Natural gas is shipped to Southern California Gas Co.

Aera and its forerunner companies have been actively producing crude oil in Ventura County since the 1920s. Much of the operation is now in secondary recovery water injection. Aera is the largest onshore oil producer in Ventura County.

Aera employees in Ventura are actively involved in the local community. A longtime member of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, Aera is also represented on the board of directors of the Ventura County Economic Development Association.

Aera has played a major role in the success of the Ventura Police Activities League (PAL) by providing seed money for its start-up and serving as title sponsor of the annual golf tournament. Employees have served in leadership roles on the advisory board and provided volunteer support of PAL programs and events.

Aera is major supporter of the United Way and was honored in 2011 and 2013 with the Roy Pinkerton Award by the United Way of Ventura County, an annual award presented to the outstanding corporate partner, and in 2012 Aera was honored as a Top Corporate Partner.

Aera also supports local education through its sponsorship of the programs of the Ventura Education Partnership. In addition, Aera is a charter sponsor of the Impact II mini-grant program of the Ventura County Office of Education. Through its involvement in the Coastal Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute, Aera contributes to scholarship programs for local students.
