Through
Partnership A.E.R.A. -- Achieving Excellence Rewarding Academics –
employees share their time and expertise with students and
teachers at selected local elementary and high schools in
Bakersfield, San Ardo, and Taft. This adopt-a-school program puts
Aera employees on campus as community readers, mentors, classroom
speakers, science fair judges, and Junior Achievement volunteers.
It also brings students and teachers into the workplace through
field trips, job shadowing and related activities.
In addition, Aera is the
major sponsor of the Kern County Science Fair, and Aera employees
serve in leadership roles in Junior Achievement, the Kern County
Science Foundation, and the K.E.E.P. Foundation. In Ventura and
Huntington Beach, Aera provides teacher mini-grants through several
school and community organizations.
In cooperation with the Department of Fish and Game, Aera
coordinates an education program at the Coles Levee Ecosystem
Preserve involving oil company personnel, local biologists and
environmental consultants, and the California Living Museum. A ¼
mile long “Nature Tour” has been established along with educational
activities tailored to elementary, middle school, and high school
students.
