Aera Energy’s donation helps get students ‘Ready to Start’

This Kern County school program prepares children to enter kindergarten on the right foot

Four-year-olds don’t know if they want to be engineers, geologists, nurses or other business professionals.

But their teachers know that no matter what they want to become, they’ll need a quality education and strong role models.

Ready to Start helps these young students get started on the right foot. The program prepares children who have no preschool experience with the skill base they’ll need for kindergarten. The Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office initiated the program in 2002 with financial backing from Aera Energy. Since then, Aera has invested over $830,000, including a recent $30,000 donation.

After the official check presentation, Aera’s chief executive officer Christina Sistrunk, chief financial officer Jeremy Osterstock and general counsel Lynne Carrithers demonstrated their love of reading by sharing an Aera favorite with the students, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss.

Aera Energy CFO Jeremy Osterstock reads to Ready to Start students at Castle Elementary School in Bakersfield, Calif.
