Aera helped Kern County kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month Oct. 5 at the 2019 “Lace’n It Up” 5k Fun Run and Celebration Walk.
The Links for Life event, held at Bakersfield’s The Park at Riverwalk, celebrated survivors, supported those going through treatment and remembered those lost to breast cancer.
It’s a cause that’s near and dear to Aera’s Dean Bishop and his family.
“Thanks to the increased awareness around breast cancer, my wife took immediate action when she noticed a small irregularity last year,” said Bishop, accounting manager. “Thankfully, she caught her tumor at an early stage and got immediate treatment.
“Organizations like Links for Life do an amazing job of increasing awareness and supporting local breast cancer patient, survivors and caregivers,” he added. “I’m glad to work for a company like Area Energy that supports its employees and the organizations that do so much for the local community, including those closest to us.”
Links for Life is a nonprofit breast-cancer support and services organization in Bakersfield. It serves to benefit persons and families affected by breast cancer. It also challenges each woman in Kern County to be aware of her breast health and promote support for those affected. The nonprofit also works to educate the general public about breast health services for women coping with cancer.
