Aera was the top fundraising team at Bakersfield’s Relay for Life event this year, coming in with just over $55,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The event raised $726,446 in total, and Jean Browning, financial analyst and Aera’s lead for the event, was recognized as the third highest individual fundraiser.
Browning was very grateful for the generosity of everyone involved with Aera’s team. “I want to give a huge thank you to all who participated by either walking, contributing raffle items, fundraising or donating. You all rock!” said Browning.
Aera employees, family members and friends attended this year’s event, and even with some rain in the evening, team members continued to walk the track throughout the night and into the wee hours of the morning.
There were a number of innovative fundraisers that made being the top team possible, but according to Browning, “The one that took the cake (no pun intended) was the bake sale and breakfast hosted by the human resources department.” The bake sale raised an impressive $1,124. Although this was the first year human resources hosted an event like this, Browning does not expect it to be their last.
Other fundraisers included: the Aera leadership team (ALT) selling La Rosa ice cream bars at the Oaks ($585); the Oasis holding a raffle and selling root beer floats ($1,100); and President and CEO Christina Sistrunk offering up dinner for two couples with her and her husband for the second year in a row ($950).
Aera hosted a raffle with some valuable prizes donated by departments: a drone, two Apple iWatches, car care products, date night packages and much more. Individuals also generously donated items such as: a TV, golf and lunch at Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield, a golf set (i.e. driver, putter and wedge), and a BOSE soundbar.
