Aera Energy’s Ron Nunley was named the Safety Professional of the Year by the Bakersfield Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) during a March 22 awards ceremony.
An 11-year employee of Aera, Nunley is a health and safety lead for Environment, Health and Safety. He joined Aera as a field safety advisor in Ventura, where he also obtained his certified safety professional qualification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
“I am honored to have received this award,” Nunley said. “I believe my nomination and selection is a testament to the team of people I work with at Aera who ensure everyone goes home alive and well every day.”
Now based in Bakersfield, Nunley has worked to improve processes in the field when it comes to safety. He’s also become a certified industrial hygienist and has helped lead continuous improvement for Aera in industrial hygiene.
Aera’s Joe Bariffi, who presented the award to Nunley, said the award is based on Nunley’s technical expertise and thorough operational knowledge; outstanding contributions to the ASSE chapter in establishing, building and maintaining programs; and his efforts to advance the safety profession.
