Andy Anderson is ready for the future

With 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, Andy Anderson knows exactly where he wants to lead as Aera’s new senior vice president of operations.

“I want to increase our focus and capabilities around lean and continuous improvement to achieve continued operating and capital-cost efficiencies,” he said. “I want to continue to grow our focus and culture around safety so we can achieve our ‘alive and well’ aspiration. I want to engage with the new organization, learn as much as possible, figure out how I can help improve Aera’s effectiveness and remove barriers.”

Since joining Aera in 1997, Anderson has held increasingly responsible operating roles among Aera’s fields. Today, he’s responsible for Aera’s field producing operations, drilling, development and the company’s Center for Process Excellence. He oversees the performance of dozens of rigs, thousands of employees and contractors, and the drilling of hundreds of new wells.

“I’ve worked on highly functioning teams and appreciate the power of teamwork and alignment,” he said. “Strong business results are all about implementation and execution.

“Aera employees really care about the company and each other,” added Anderson. “We’re very focused on delivering the business as well as improving it. At Aera, people are accountable to doing the right thing for the company and for each other.”

Before Aera, Anderson worked for Shell Oil Company in New Orleans, Houston and Bakersfield in various engineering, operations and management assignments. He holds a chemical engineering degree from Stanford University, has been active Western States Petroleum Association and speaks fluent Spanish.

How Anderson lives Aera’s purpose, vision and values:

“I believe it’s each person’s responsibility not only to do the work but also to continuously improve how we do it. I’d like to encourage development of a culture in which everybody has the opportunity to contribute his or her ideas. That’s part of a passion for learning and improving.”

― Andy Anderson, senior vice president-operations

“Andy Anderson is a champion for environmental, health and safety (EHS) excellence, with a keen focus on safety processes in which he demonstrates being accountable to each other every day. His commitment to continuous improvement has made the Belridge team efficient and highly effective. Andy has a passion for learning and improving by raising the bar on each team and coaching individuals to achieve their very best.”

― Ron John, senior vice president-production and Anderson’s supervisor

“Andy walks the talk when it comes to effective leadership. An example is when it comes to the safety of our employees and suppliers and our impact to the environment. He consistently sets the pace for safety interactions and environmental excellence in Area’s production operation. He demonstrates a strong bias for action by ensuring that Aera’s employees have the tools, training and knowledge needed to execute Aera’s EHS policies and procedures. He does not view safety and environmental as programs or processes; he views them as values, and strives to drive those values deep throughout the Aera organization.”

― John O’Connor, manager of operations for Treating and Infrastructure at Belridge
