Working with the Golden Empire Gleaners’ annual food drive, Aera employees are on track to feed 300 Kern County families for Thanksgiving this year.

“Thanksgiving is an important time for friends and neighbors to come together to help those who don’t have the means to provide for the holiday meal,” said Glen Ephrom, executive director of Golden Empire Gleaners.

With a staff of just four people, the nonprofit food bank relies on hundreds of community volunteers to help alleviate hunger and provide food for needy persons of all ages in Kern County. It serves 18,000 people per month on average. Last year alone, the Gleaners distributed 2 million pounds of food to feed over 200,000 people.

“Not only do we redouble our efforts to ensure that we have the necessary food for this traditional meal, we always rely on the giving hearts of the folks at Aera Energy to get us through,” Ephrom added. “For many years, Aera Energy and their generous team members have donated a large number of fresh turkeys and ‘all of the fixings’ to make the holiday special for hundreds of our clients. We salute Aera Energy and thank them for all that they do in our county.”

Employees at Aera’s Midway Sunset field will also provide full Thanksgiving meals for 10 families in Taft this month.
