It’s not likely that a 30-year mechanic will often, if ever, rub shoulders with a reservoir engineering intern.
That’s a missed opportunity for sharing life and industry experiences that the newest employee resource group (ERG), Nexus, hopes to correct.
Nexus provides a forum for both early-career and seasoned employees to connect through social networking, community service and professional development.
“Nexus seeks to address the common goals and interests of our early-career employees. Typically, these are individuals with less than 10 years of experience, both technical and non-technical,” said Justin Fantasky, facilities engineer and Nexus chairman. “The participation of experienced employees enhances the quality of our events and is critical to meeting our objectives.”
Nexus hopes to improve employee retention, especially for those just starting their career, by providing opportunities to connect meaningfully with Aera and the Bakersfield community. The new ERG also wants to raise employee engagement by building and strengthening employee working relationships and promoting pride and ownership of Aera’s Purpose, Vision and Values.
The group has held several events, including professional development forums. To advance its social networking goals, Nexus has organized monthly lunches, pick-up sports groups, a wine tasting trip and more. Members have volunteered for community service activities, including the Great American Clean-up and Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County.
“Nexus offers something for everyone at Aera,” Fantasky said.
