Ventura Operation Highlights

Our work — impacting the local economy

  • Aera is Ventura County’s third-largest property taxpayer. In 2016 alone the company paid over $4 million in property to local governments and school districts.
  • As many as 250 employees and contractors work in our Ventura field on any given day

Our focus — safety and the environment

  • Over the last 10 years Aera has replaced 210 miles of piping to safeguard land and water resources to protect the Ventura River watershed. We have also removed over 1,000 miles of idle piping and 125 out-of-service tanks, vessels and buildings
  • Extensive infrastructure improvements to roads, drains, site grading and erosion control best management practices have resulted in significant improvements in storm water discharge quality from the property
  • Compliance with more than 1,000 permit conditions to protect air quality
  • 96% of total use of water at our Ventura oil field is recycled produced water used in enhanced oil recovery operations. While overall activity in the oil field has increased over the last five years, fresh water usage has decreased by 40 percent
  • Demolition of old buildings, removal of old idle equipment and piping and the painting of pumping units to improve aesthetics and allows improved visibility of piping and equipment

Water stewardship

  • 96% of water used at our Ventura oil field is recycled produced water and used in enhanced oil recovery operations
  • In July 2016, Aera began a partnership with Ventura Water to utilize recycled water instead of fresh water for dust control to comply with local and state air quality regulations
  • Aera’s extensive infrastructure improvements to roads, drains, site grading and erosion control have resulted in significant improvements in storm water discharge quality
  • No fresh water wells or Ventura River water is used in oil field operations
