Oil is everywhere
From aspirin to umbrellas, from cell phones to surgical equipment, petroleum products play a key role in hundreds of products we all use every day. Oil and natural gas not only light up our homes and businesses but heat and cool them too. They fuel water heaters and kitchen appliances, and power our vehicles, planes, tractors and equipment.
Oil and gas are deeply engrained in California’s history and present-day economy. California is the nation’s third-largest petroleum producer, operating under the strictest regulations in the world. Oil and gas provides approximately 180,000 jobs in California and contributes over $21.2 billion in taxes to state and local governments.
By safely producing oil and gas here in California, we lessen our dependence on foreign supplies and help lower energy prices in our homes, businesses and at the gas pump.
