STEMposium a success in connecting science, students

Aera Energy’s Matt Kedzierski and Lisa Rollins prepare to greet students at the company’s booth for the first-ever STEMposium at Bakersfield College on May 19, 2017.
With more than 1,000 business leaders, educators on hand the first Kern County STEMposium proved to be a resounding success.
Held May 19, 2017 at Bakersfield College’s Gil Bishop Gymnasium, 16 Aera employees from various professional backgrounds (e.g. geology, drilling, EHS, IT and HR) hosted a large booth and shared with students about careers in the industry.
Aera’s booth proved to be quite the showstopper featuring a large balloon display and a hands-on learning activity where attendees could “drill for oil” in chocolate chip cupcakes.
President and CEO Christina Sistrunk also served as one of the keynote speakers for the event, giving a presentation on her journey in the industry and discussing what it means to be a woman in engineering.
