Like the wells he oversees, Andy Anderson’s expertise in the oil and gas industry runs deep:
- More than 35 years of engineering, operations and management experience, including with Shell Oil Company in New Orleans, Houston and Bakersfield and, since 1997, Aera Energy;
- Increasingly responsible roles at Aera’s five production locations: Ventura, Coalinga, San Ardo, Midway Sunset and Belridge, where he has handled key assignments in engineering, continuous improvement, and both technical and operations management;
- A chemical engineering degree from Stanford University.
“My background enables me to ask a lot of questions and helps teams get to positive resolutions,” says Anderson, named Aera’s senior vice president of operations in 2017. “I like to be very engaged in the business and support people any way I can.”
Today, Anderson is responsible for Aera’s field producing operations, drilling, development and the company’s Center for Process Excellence. He oversees the performance of dozens of rigs, thousands of employees and contractors, and the drilling of hundreds of new wells. He does it with a lot of help.
“Aera employees really care about the company and each other,” Anderson says. “We’re very focused on delivering the business as well as improving it. At Aera, people are accountable to doing the right thing for the company and for each other.”
Anderson has been active in Western States Petroleum Association, which “strives to develop a better understanding of the relevant issues by government leaders, the media and the general public,” he says. “It’s a critical mission for our industry.”
Fluent in English and Spanish, Anderson enjoys reading fiction, following a variety of sports, and taking long walks on the weekends.
